In remembrance Jupiter Hammons, the first published Negro Poet in America, we will visit the house of Joseph Lloyd, the home Jupiter was enslaved to learn about his historic writings before, during and after the American Revolutionary War.

NNR Movie Night
In celebration of June 19th, 1865 the date in which the last Negroes enslaved in Galveston, TX were informed they were FREED by Union Soldiers by way of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, we will pour libations on this day to mark our Freedom from the chattels of Negro Slavery in America.
We will be in celebration mode, watching the historic film “Glory”. 7PM, Showtime at 8PM.

Field Trip to Weeksville
Join us on Saturday, April 8th 2023, for a walk-through of Weeksville Heritage Society to learn all about James Weeks and the early Free Negro Settlement in the heart of Brooklyn in the 1830s. This event will also give members an opportunity to meet with Weeksville staff to discuss and brainstorm events our NNR members would like to hold at Weeksville.
