TRUE GROWTH ACCOMPANIES SACRIFICE

Harriets Hope

Our great Negro ancestor Harriet Tubman’s legacy came about by freeing slaves through the underground railroad. Her commitment to us represents more than a beacon of hope but a model of true value built by her trust and sacrifice.

Freedom found on the Hudson

The Hudson River Valley was a vital throughway for escaped slaves from the south headed north. Underground Railroad stations and safehouses scattered along the valley from New York City to Vermont were a main artery in Negroes finding a pathway to freedom,

Known as the “Moses” of our her people”, Harriet Tubman was enslaved, escaped, and helped others gain their freedom as a “conductor” of the Underground Railroad.

Charging Bull

The very name “Wall Street” is born of slavery, with enslaved and free Negroes building the wall in 1653. This walkway and wooden fence, made up of pointing logs and running river to river, later known as Wall Street, the home of world finance. By 1711, New York was growing quickly, and the growing needs of the city were often supplied by slave labor, a slave market was established at Wall Street.

ONLY TRUE CURRENCY IS TRUST & LOVE

Our Lady Liberty

A gift from the French to honor the end of slavery for which would have not been possible without Negroes who fought for their liberty and freedom. The creation of Lady Liberty was assisted by sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi who created her with broken shackles, signaling the end of slavery, in her left hand.

“The soldiers and other servants of the Company, together with the free Negroes, no one excepted, shall complete the work on the fort by constructing a breastwork, and the farmers are to be summoned to haul the sod” - 1653

(— Dutch Colonial Council, City of New Amsterdam

“On December 13, 1711, the City Council passed a law “that all Negro and Indian slaves that are let out to hire…be hired at the Market house at the Wall Street Slip until Such time as they are hired, whereby all Persons may Know where to hire slaves. - 1711
